The Office of the CTO
Nick Shephard
Requirements Analyst
I come from a background of providing business and systems requirements analysis in commercial software and service organisations. Latterly I have undertaken Business Analyst roles involved with capturing and managing requirements for Sophos Anti-virus products, VocaLink inter-bank clearing and settlement systems, and Aveva Solutions CAD products for oil and marine engineering industries.
After gaining a Masters degree in Operational Research, I began working in public sector organisations, applying OR quantitative analysis and modelling techniques. As a Business Analyst I’m accustomed to working in the space between business clients and development engineers to capture and communicate systems requirements and foster common expectations for solutions delivery.
My role with the Butterfly Office of the CTO is to provide a structured approach for capturing business requirements to enhance migrator systems and services, and for working up specifications enabling verifiable delivery of developments to realise these requirements. Key aims are to ensure that requirements are scoped and delivered in line with business priorities, and defined in a clear and unambiguous form that minimises the need for costly design changes late in the development life-cycle.
Outside work I’d like to think I could cut an alternative career as a musician – but I won’t be giving up my day job just yet! I play a bit of guitar and get a lot of fun from singing and performing at sessions and clubs in the area around my family home in Oxford.
